The RBI's digital rupee pilot expanded to two lakh villages with an offline mode that settles peer-to-peer without connectivity. Tap phones, done. Transactions sync when a network appears. If it holds up, it solves the one problem UPI never could: payments where the signal dies. Cash's last argument is under trial.
